Akura Fishing Charters are dedicated to providing guests a fun and exciting fishing experience out on Rarotonga’s magical reef. The awesome fishing team is the best in the business. Offering a range of large vessels perfect for all groups and sizes, Akura Fishing Charters feature top standard safety equipment including VFH & SSB radios, EPIRB and a fantastic crew that are all first aid certified.
Akura, the largest of the 3 vessels is the perfect choice for guests interested in game fishing. With full toilet facilities on board and a game chair located in the center, this boat is ideal for large groups. Ikurangi and Te Manga are slightly smaller vessels and are both suitable for a wide range of activities including game fishing, spear fishing and reef fishing.
Fishing around Rarotonga is a must do for all visiting people. From the magical, warm waters, great visibility and the expectation of a ‘catch’ is endless. The fish life here varies and depending on the season, you are sure to come by many different types of fish including the Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Barracuda, Mahi-mahi and the Yellow-fin & Skipjack Tuna.
Half or full day private or shared charters are available and operate from Monday to Saturday.
Light lunch, bottled water, fishing gears and a share of the ‘catch’ of the day is included in all the tours and guests are encouraged to bring sunscreen, a sunhat, change of clothes and a waterproof camera to capture the fun moments.
Whale Watching shared or private charters are seasonal and available during whale season from July to October.
Fishing tours includes a light lunch, and bottled water, fishing gear, bait and the captain will fillet some fish to take home.
Whale Watching tour includes tour guide, chilly bin with ice (BYO beverages).
Child policy: Children under 12 years are not accepted on the shared charters, private only.
Important Note: Tour prefer taking children from 5 years and over. However parents are to supervise their children at all times.
Transfers: Clients are to make their own arrangements to the Avatiu harbour.
Days of operation: Monday to Saturday.
Time of operation: Morning tours depart at 8.30am. Afternoon tours depart at 1.30pm.
Tour duration: Full day tours is up to 8 hours. Half day tours is up to 4 to 4.5 hours.
Whale Watching Tour duration: 2 hours
Cancellation Policy:
Require 48 hours notice otherwise 100% charged or opportunity to hold booking for 12 months.
Pax Requirements: Shared charters a minimum of 4 pax must be met before the tour can operate. Maximum pax is 6. Private charters maximum pax is 16. Ikurangi / Te Manga a minimum of 2 pax must be met before the tour can operate. Maximum pax is 4.
Whale Watching charters a minimum of 1 pax. Shared charter maximum pax 15. Private charter on 24ft vessel maximum pax 6. Private charter on 40ft vessel maximum pax 16.
Important Note: There is a minimum pax number for charters to operate, should this number not be met the tour for the day may be cancelled and you will be given the option to rebook for another day.
